About Appropriate Productions...
I started this endeavour to show off my film making projects during my university training in Digital Media studies at Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo and Duncan, BC Canada. I've continued with my latest project: "3D immersive video in Halkomelem".
I will be posting information about what I've learned, what I've completed, and how you can join in the project.
Our Heritage
As a member of the Snuneymuxw First Nations in Nanaimo, BC, I enjoy learning about our local culture and wish to share with the world.
Our language is on the endangered list with less than 60 Elders speaking fluently in the last decade.
Why? you ask.
With the onset on colonization, loss of community through unprepared immune system attacks, racism crimes, and disability in integrating to a new world; many of our peoples lost their language, culture, and confidence.
We are making a comeback.
Our Staff
Our staff consists of me; and various members of the local society whom have shown interest in volunteering to help out with audio, video, and acting. Please be kind as we are a small unit.
Our Facilities
Through a grant from the First People's Cultural Council in Brentwood Bay, BC, I was able to obtain space on Kitely (a virtual world) to create land, water spaces, people, and objects to recreate the ambience of our local historial places.
Our Community
I have invited local community in-world to see what I've accomplished, and how they can help to keep our language a vital part of our community and our culture.
